A Hard Day's Night

The opening scene of A Hard Day's night shows the incredible success of The Beatles in just over a year. The crowds of girls chasing the band around Victoria Station in London are real. Everywhere the band goes there are similar scenes.

The film creates imaginary lives for the four young men. Paul, for example, has his eccentric grandfather (played by British television comedy actor). Ringo is the lovable funny one.

Even the title promotes The Beatles image. The phrase 'A hard day's night' was overheard by Lennon. It doesn't have a literal meaning but connects to the frenzied activity of Beatlemania.

A Hard Day's Night is a huge success. The Beatles are now the biggest stars since Elvis. Like the King, they appear to be set on a career combining pop music and family films.
