In first half of 1962 The Beatles were a popular local band in Liverpool. When they toured the UK, they supported better known groups.

The band's first televised performance is on the People and Places programme. This is transmitted live from Manchester by Granada Television on 17 October 1962.

Please, Please Me


On 26 November 1962 the band record their second single "Please Please Me". It reaches number two on the official UK charts. Three months later, they record their first album, also titled Please Please Me.
The Beatles reputation is growing with incredible speed. Everywhere they go there are crowds of screaming girls.
