Brian Epstein

Brian Epstein owns the biggest record shop in Liverpool. Customers are asking about a local group called The Beatles.

'They made some records in Germany.'

'Where are they now?'

'Back here in Liverpool. They play at The Cavern. Everyone loves them.'

Brian sees a business opportunity. He comes to The Cavern to hear this new group with their new music. And he falls in love the music – and perhaps with John Lennon.

Something Special

Brian comes from a very different world to the boys in the group. He is a middle class, Jewish homosexual. But he knows he is watching something special.

In this early interview Brian describes the first time he sees The Beatles - and they talk about their reaction to him.

‘I was immediately struck by their music, their beat, and their sense of humour on stage … afterwards, when I met them, I was struck again by their personal charm. And it was there that, really, it all started.

The Beatles recognise Epstein because they are regular customers in his shop. After the performance when Brian comes to their ‘dressing room’ George Harrison says, "And what brings Mr. Epstein here?"
