The last two years of the group saw endless in-fighting. Business meetings interrupted recording sessions as the group broke into two camps.
On one side was Paul who was now advised by Linda's father. The others had an aggressive new manager named Alan Klein.
Another problem was increasing resentment of John's new wife, Yoko Ono. John invited her to join band activities. She even participated in recording sessions.
On one famous occasion Yoko had a cold. A bed was brought into the studio and a microphone attached. Even from her sick bed Yoko could offer advice unwanted by at least three members of the band
A Terrible
Record
During the recording of
Let it
Be, the
terrible atmosphere resulted in a terrible record. For once
the four agreed on something - this could not be their
final album.
The famous record producer Phil Spector came in to try and
rescue Let it Be.
He added strings
and other arrangements to cover some poor recordings. But
some believe he made the album worse. Thirty years later
Paul McCartney remixed the original tapes.
The Beatles went back into the studio where they produced
their final masterpiece, Abbey Road
. This was released
before Let it Be.
